Brown Butter and Sage Ravioli

I don't know about you, but when I hear the words Trader Joe's, I am immediately tickled with excitement. There's not much I enjoy more than a trip to TJs. The frozen meals, the cheese section, the fresh produce, the PUMPKIN SEASON. I just love everything about this store, and I know whenever I shop there, I am going to get three large bags of groceries for a fraction of the cost of other stores. I love a good variety of grocery stores, but mannnnn Trader Joe's is a vibe. Needless to say, Trader Joe's is always stocked with easy dinner ingredients like pre-made chicken breasts, frozen meals, and of course, their ravioli. I LOVE RAVIOLI. Who doesn't?! When ravioli combines with pumpkin, throw in a brown buttah sauce and some sage, it's the perfect weeknight meal in a pinch.

When I tell you how easy this recipe is, and that you literally only need three ingredients, your jaw will drop. That's what I love about Trader Joe's, you can really make just about anything with ingredients there, and it does not have to be complex. This brown butter and sage ravioli recipe can go with any side dish of roasted veggies, an additional squash, or with some roasted chicken thighs, it's a very versatile meal. We opted for it as our main meal, with a little leftover for my lunch the next day. As i've said in previous posts, making brown butter seems intimidating, but it's really quite accessible. It's all about watching the butter as a sputters and foams, and waiting for the small brown bits at the bottom. Add in some sage, pour over some pasta.  BOOM.  Dinner is served my friends *insert clap emoji here.*

Morgan's Rec's and Tips:

  • Remember when browning butter, use a light-bottomed shallow pan. Anything nonstick or a darker pan will not yield the best results. Plus, a dark bottom pan will make seeing the brown bits difficult thus resulting in likely burnt butter versus browned.
  • Instead of draining the ravioli, use a slotted spoon to scoop the pasta out and add directly to the pan with the brown butter sage sauce. It holds onto the starch from the cooked pasta and is way easier to clean and maneuver.
  • Cook the pasta a minute less than the package states. You want al dente for this recipe, trust me!
  • Don't like pumpkin ravioli, use tortellini, four cheese ravioli, or even pour over some rigatoni and freshly chopped sage with ground sausage. Mmmm, that sounds good... brb.

Trader Joe's is an overall amazing place to shop, grab ingredients for a quick dinner, and has a variety of options for you to choose from. If you make this recipe, please remember to comment and share, it goes a long way!

Brown Butter and Sage Ravioli

Calling all Trader Joe's lovers, this recipe is for YOU! Three ingredients, brown butter, and ravioli, could this BE any easier? Browned butter sauce with delicious pumpkin ravioli, and a touch of fresh sage, not only is this recipe on trend for the Fall, but it tastes downright amazing. Plus, all these ingredients are at the ready for you at TJs!

  • 1 package Trader Joe's pumpkin ravioli
  • 10 fresh sage leaves
  • 4 tbsp butter, unsalted

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add salt and the pumpkin ravioli. Cook until the ravioli float to the top and strain. Set aside
  2. Meanwhile, brown the 4 tbsp of butter in a light-bottomed shallow frying pan.
  3. Once the butter is browning, add in the sage leaves and lower the flame. Let the sage leaves render down and cook until fragrant. Remove the leaves from butter and turn off the heat.
  4. Pour the ravioli into the frying pan with the brown butter sage sauce and stir to coat.
  5. Sprinkle a dusting of parmesan cheese on top and enjoy!
