Easy Green Smoothie Recipe

·

Are you similar to me? You love a good smoothie, so you get on a smoothie-making kick for a few days, then completely forget, fall off, and then months later return to smoothies? I am known to do this, but whenever I do make a smoothie like my strawberry smoothie, my go to is always a smoothie packed with nutrients, like this green smoothie. I absolutely love making this easy green smoothie recipe because not only is it pretty, but it's delicious, high protein, fiber, and excellent for an on-the-go breakfast.

Easy Green Smoothie Recipe

The recipe for this green smoothie starts with spinach. Yes, this is a spinach smoothie recipe. Don't leave this page yet, hear me out. Spinach absolutely has a distinct taste, but when blended together with fresh fruit, honey, some protein powder, you will completely forget that the base is made from spinach.

Why spinach?

Spinach is one of my favorite vegetables for many reasons:

  • it's versatile! You can literally add spinach to any recipe, and it'll taste fabulous
  • Spinach is loaded with nutrition such as iron, vitamin K, phosphorus, and folate.
  • Spinach is also known to be anti-inflammatory and support low sugar levels.

I really love, which could be why there's an entire cup of fresh baby spinach in this smoothie.

Is this smoothie made with protein?

Yes, this particular recipe calls for two scoops of protein. One of the things that I am trying to do with my own lifestyle is incorporate more protein into my eating, so the bet way to do this for myself is to add it to my breakfast like in my pancakes or my coffee, and absolutely in a smoothie. I like to use Ancient Nutrition multi-collagen and it's flavorless, so you won't even taste it.

Can I use another green vegetable instead of spinach?

I prefer spinach for this, but you can easily substitute kale or any other leafy green, the intent of this green smoothie is of course, to make it green! Feel free to add in other fruits too if that's what you desire.

Kitchen tools

You're only going to need one kitchen tool or appliance for this recipe, and that's a trusty blender. You'll want a blender that has sharp blades and can cut through ice and all sorts of ingredients without leaving lumps or large leaves when finished. We want as smooth of a smoothie as possible, see what I did there?

Ingredients

There's not many ingredients for this recipe that'll send you running to the store, maybe other than protein powder, but you can skip this if that's not your thing.

  • Spinach: Fresh spinach leaves is what we're after here.
  • Almond Milk: Swap oat or soy milk if you'd prefer
  • Honey
  • Banana: We only need just one half of the banana, but if you want it a bit sweeter, throw in the entire thing!
  • Blueberries
  • Protein Powder: You can use a vegan plant-based protein powder if you're vegan or looking to remain plant based.
  • Ice

Directions

  1. In a blender, add the spinach, blueberries, banana, honey, almond milk, protein powder, and ice.
  2. Close the lid tight and blend for several minutes until there are no large ice chunks and the spinach is fully combined.
  3. Pour into your favorite glass with your favorite straw and enjoy.

Swaps and Substitutions

Do I need protein powder?

No, you don't need any protein powder, but because I am always looking for ways to get more protein in my eating habits, I tend to add to my smoothies.

Can I add different fruit into this recipe?

You can add in all sorts of fruits from berries to melon and everything in between! I always like adding in berries like blueberries or strawberries, some mango, or pineapple.
