One of the foods I absolutely hated eating as a kid was salmon. For literally no reason other than I just did not like the look of it. Over the years, and learning to explore different foods, I've become quite fond of salmon and its versatility. It's actually one of my son's favorite meals, and this honey glazed salmon featuring Local Hive Honey's Cali Citrus varietal might just be my new favorite way to make it.

Honey Glazed Salmon

Salmon is one of the foods that goes really well with just about any type of condiment or sauce. This honey glazed salmon, made with the Cali Citrus honey from Local Hive Honey's Harvest Reserve gift box adds a delicious citrusy, sweet flavor. It also really adds to the flakiness of the salmon when it's done baking. I'm telling you, this salmon is the salmon of your dreams! I love pairing this dish with my adobo brussel sprouts or even my rainbow carrots.

Why cook with honey?

Honey is a perfect pairing with salmon. Why? It adds a depth of flavor, gives the food a sweet finish, and it tastes great! I was always very nervous to cook (or bake) with honey, I guess I never fully understood how to incorporate it into recipes, but now that I do, I am confident in making recipes directly centered around honey, such as this honey glazed salmon.

Ingredients

This is easily one of the quickest and minimal ingredient recipes you'll ever find. I'm completely serious.

  • Salmon: pat dry before adding any sauce to it!
  • Coconut aminos: helps to give the salmon flavor and makes it ultra tender. Also, coconut aminos is a great alternative to soy sauce.
  • Honey: We use Local Hive Honey's Cali Citrus from their Harvest Reserve gift box. You MUST grab a bottle for yourself here, and be sure to use code NOMASTE15 for a sweet little discount, but remember to buy before 12/31/22!
  • Fresh orange juice: Half a fresh squeezed orange is plenty!
  • Cracked pepper: Helps to round out the acidity.

Directions

Making this recipe takes minimal prep and bake time, which is why I love making this on the weekdays. Make extra for leftovers the next day and you've got a few meals done and dusted!

  1. Preheat the oven to 350º and line a baking sheet with parchment
  2. Take the salmon filets and pat dry. Place them on the baking sheet and set aside.
  3. Add the coconut aminos, orange juice, and honey to a bowl and mix vigorously until the honey is dissolved.
  4. Using a spoon, pour the glaze mixture over the top of both salmon filets. Optional to top the salmon with fresh cracked pepper.
  5. Bake the salmon for 17 minutes. Pair with rice and vegetable of choice.

Tips for making this recipe

There are a few things to keep in mind when baking this honey glazed salmon:

  • Be sure to NOT overbake the salmon. Over-baked salmon is very tough, chewy, and just doesn't taste great. Baking for 16-17 minutes at 350º will yield the best results guaranteed.
  • Add more sauce and honey than you think. This will keep the salmon flavorful and not dry out.
  • Feel free to top with your favorite greens like thyme or rosemary, those herbs will compliment the flavors of the honey really well!
