Strawberry Smoothie

·

Smoothies are always on my breakfast rotation. Not only are they delicious, but they can pack a lot of nutrients in them, especially when they have a variety of fruits, sometimes vegetables, yogurt, and liquids such as coconut water. I am typically a green smoothie girl, but won’t say no to other versions of a smoothie. Berries are a staple in my smoothies, especially strawberry. Strawberry smoothies create the most beautiful pink hue, whereas adding a cup of spinach to it will turn the color green. This strawberry smoothie has a heavy emphasis on the strawberry, with a sprinkle of other delicious ingredients that bring multiple servings of fruit to your breakfast.

This particular strawberry smoothie incorporates raspberries, pineapple, blueberries, a large handful of strawberries, two tablespoons of Stonyfield farm plain whole milk yogurt, and a tablespoon of my favorite honey from Sag Harbor Honey. My liquid for this strawberry smoothie comes from plain coconut water and ice cubes. For this recipe, I used fresh fruit, but frozen fruit work really well too; I would omit the ice if I were using the frozen berries.

Strawberry Smoothie Subs and Swaps:

  • Swap out fresh fruit for frozen! Leave out the ice in this strawberry smoothie if this is the route you choose to go.
  • Don’t like coconut water? Use regular water, or almond milk! Using a milk will make it creamier.
  • I love yogurt in a smoothie as yogurt has probiotics and gut health benefits. To read more about the importance of probiotics (and choosing the right yogurt for your particular lifestyle), click here.
  • Like greens? Throw in spinach, kale, arugula, dealer’s choice!
  • You can throw in chia seeds, hemp hearts, collagen peptides, or flax seeds for added nutritional benefits.
  • Honey is great in smoothies for added nutritional value and sweetness. Plus, I hit the jackpot with Sag Harbor Honey. They’re a husband and wife dynamic duo and have incredible passion for their honeybees. Check them out!
