Watermelon Frosé

·

This is the quintessential summertime cocktail. Nothing says summer quite like watermelon, and when blended together with your favorite rose and some ice cubes, you've got a frothy, flavorful, and refreshing cocktail that doesn't disappoint. It's love at first sip and I am so excited to share this frosé recipe with you!

What is a frosé?

Simply put, a frosé is a frozen rosé drink. Blend the wine with some ice cubes and voila, frozé. This version incorporates watermelon to add some fresh flavors to the wine, a perfect compliment for summer.

Where did the term frosé come from?

There's a bar in NYC called Bar Primi in the East Village, and they are the geniuses behind the first frozé. They created the frozen wine drink in 2016 and it's been a very trendy drink of choice ever since.

What makes a Frosé so special?

Ordering a frosé at a bar simply means you're asking for a glass of frozen rosé wine, which in my opinion is not only different but super refreshing, especially in the warmer months. Adding watermelon to the frosé helps to compliment the flavors of the rosé wine, but watermelon does not have to be your fruit of choice! Here's some other options:

  • Pineapple
  • Berries
  • Melons such as honeydew or cantaloupe

How do you make frosé?

Start by prepping your watermelon (or fruit of choice) and adding it to a blender, along with the cup and a half of rosé wine and a squeeze of lime juice. I like to add elderflower liquor but you can leave it out! Blend the watermelon/fruit of choice and the wine together until smooth. Then, add in the ice. Blend until your desired thickness and serve! It's quite easy and oh so delicious.

Do I need to use rosé?

Not at all! You can use a white wine if you desire, but I would not use red. Red is excellent for sangrias, but I would very much prefer to use white wine as it will blend well with the fruit you choose. Either way, a frosé will be delicious no matter how you pair it!
